Jutta's report on events of the Year 2000:

So we are approaching the end of 2000, the new Millenium is soon to begin.

Of course Diether & I had started the year in the backcountry and went to bed at 11pm, to be woken by Diether’s parents at midnight. We worked hard on keeping the year calm – we did have to work hard on it: after all my mom turned 80 with a big party – I started a new job – description of me working employed instead of self-employed could yield a novel.

This was an exciting year for us, Ben finished High School and entered adult life; Diether and I hope, that he will return to full-time college life soon instead of working full-time and playing with college (DeAnza). We had our 25th Wedding Anniversary - when we got married most of our friends and relatives did not give us more than a year. Diether finished his first 0.5 century - again, we did not much special - we had the traditional "summer fest". It was quite special though, because Diether's parents came over from Europe and we had a great few weeks together. Diether's mother got mad at me just once, when we were shopping for provisions for the party - (100+ folks) you do run up bills - the grocery clerk commented, and I answered that it was for her son's 50th!

My mother turned 80 this year. I visited for the big day, but could not stay for all of the smaller parties. They spread till summer. I kept my rep business and thought all of this year would provide plenty of diversion. My "old" boss, however, thought differently, and hired me for a full-time .com sales job. Therefore the flight back from my mom's birthday was "diverted" through Boston for a sales meeting, followed by a 1/2 weekend stop at home and a flight to Laguna Beach for a "team building" meeting (=great conversations and lots of fun); it was done right.
